I actually had a dream about this last night. No joke. It wasn’t one of those coherent dreams — I was cooking this and then the noodles came to life and ran away and I was really upset because I thought we were friends, ya know? and then the roof came off and I was actually in the Cathedral but there was no roof? You know. Weird dreams that make no sense.
Lately, this has been my favorite dish. Pho is warm, soothing, it’s amazing for when you’re sick or have sore muscles, and with this recipe, it’s really easy to make. Once you try this out, you’ll want this every week.
I think it’s fair to say I stand by everything I make. If I ever plan a dish to share with you guys and it turns out sub-par, I scrap it until I can perfect it.
I honestly thought this was going to be one of those projects. Boy was I wrong.
Eggrolls have always been elusive to me. Crunchy outside, savory inside, deliciously filled, folded like some complex origami. It intimidated me. But when it was suggested that I make them for Pandaren month, I decided to give it my best.
It was not hard. I should not have waited. And everyone needs to try this.
When I made my first batch of 12 (the yield for this recipe), I decided to let them cool while I cleaned up and did the dishes. There was only one other person around at the time, I told them they could try one if they’d liked. Do you want to know how many I got to sample?
One. I had one. And only because I took it in the kitchen with me while I worked. I returned to a very full Alexi and an empty plate. Apparently once he had taken a bite of the first one, he simply couldn’t help himself. I’m a bit cranky about that… Because my reaction was the same. The moment I bit into that crunchy, flavorful goodness, I needed more.
And someone had eaten them all…
So this is another cauldron recipe! Again, if you have an Instant-Cauldron, I’ll try and figure out the conversion for you!
Have you ever been to Kul Tiras? Weather-wise, it’s kind of like Stormwind on steroids. Stormwind is wet and cold from the bay and it’s that wet that gets into your skin. But in Boralus, it’s even more intense. It gets all the way into your bones! At least for me, it doesn’t seem to matter how much I bundle up, I’m always cold and damp. Good thing those Kul Tiran jackets are so stylish.
One thing that seems to warm our island neighbors is baked beans. Now this is kind of a mis…name… cuz they’re actually done in a cauldron, but man they are delicious. They’re easy to make on the sea with ingredients that are easy to preserve. And I’ve found that they actually can store for a few weeks in a cold-box, and even freeze pretty well.

Ya know, if you tell someone you don’t know where the meat came from, they won’t touch it with a ten foot lance. If you call it ‘Mystery Meat’, you can get some of the more adventurous ones to try it out.
But if you put it on a loaf…
…why exactly is it that people are so eager to eat things in a loaf? Someone smarter than me explain.
Oh man. Oh man oh man oh man. This stuff is insane. I’ve made it twice so far and not only is it delicious, but I can’t keep enough stocked at the Keg!
Let me back it up a bit. Remember a while back I talked about my favorite Goblin box food, Mook and Cheese? Well, I was feeling particularly hungry today and Denarys and I were sitting around waxing poetic about food the same way that devilish men wax about pretty ladies. I was telling him about the delicious, steamy, ooey goodness that is mook and cheese and suddenly he gives me this sidelong look and asks why the fel I get my mook from a box.
Confused, I asked him what he meant.
He tells me that his mother (or I guess more accurately, his mother’s paid servants) make it all from scratch. And it is the kind of thing that makes the Naaru sing. Well. At least it makes Pryn make some very happy sounds. So after a lot of rather unbecoming begging and a few days to wait on the couriers, I had my very own recipe of Baked Mook to try.
It is well worth the wait.

In the past year, I’ve come a long way. I’ve gone from being a homeless nobody to basically running a tavern. I’ve become a Knight Adept with the Argent Crusade. I haven’t had to steal for food, and in fact, I’ve found myself in the situation more than once with too much food and no way to store it.
That’s why I love this week’s recipe. It combines two of my favorite things – not letting food go to waste, and feeding my fellow Knights. …And the secret third thing being that it’s also a play on words that I’m very proud of. One of my favorite things to do here in Stormwind is to
bring tastes of home to people who have never experienced it. Most of you know
I’m originally from Silvermoon, but I spent a lot of time in both Brill and
outside of Orgrimmar. And sometimes, man do orcs know how to eat.
On Durotar, one thing that there are plenty of is boar. So pork is a huge stable in Durotar orcish cuisine. When you head a bit south though, you come to Razor Hill, a perfect melting pot of Darkspear Trolls and Orcs. With it, comes a delicious mix of trollish spices and orcish meats that everyone needs to experience at least once.
